Recently we published a blog discussing how sometimes it just makes sense to deploy a modern Android based device with a physical keyboard. One of those devices can be found in the newly released Honeywell Dolphin CN80.
Honeywell's decision to move to their Mobility Edge common internal hardware platform is a big step in the right direction. This move will ensure continuity in application compatibility and performance as well as with support between different device form factors using the same Mobility Edge platform. It was also designed to support future OS updates for years to come, effectively reducing future hardware costs.
Easing the transition from legacy WinMobile and WinCE devices, the CN80 works great for Telnet applications like SAP Console and others, with enough screen real estate to take advantage of the touch screen to add application function keys with screen reformatting products like Ivanti's Velocity client.
The Honeywell Dolphin CN80 is a solid device with all of the features one looks for in a ruggedized mobile data collection device and another great example of a modern android data collection device with a physical keyboard.
